Robert Milford
Head of Internal Audit,
Audit Cotswolds ~ Cotswold District Council
Robert is the Head of Audit Cotswolds, an internal audit shared service in Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire; and he is a PhD Researcher for University of Worcester Business School.
Robert started down his internal auditor
path in 1999, when he moved from his bench in the painting and gilding studio at Royal Worcester to their management services team. This he sees as the best move he ever made. He is also convinced that the attention to detail
necessary for painting figurines was entirely transferable to an internal auditor role.
Robert turned to local government internal auditing in 2004, initially with Worcester City Council, before going on to become
the Chief Internal Auditor for Cotswold District Council. His achievements include the delivery of a new in-house internal audit service for Cotswold District Council in 2008 and subsequently developing this into the first
shared service for the authority. He currently chairs the Midland Chief Internal Auditor Group. He is also on the bank for sessional lecturing at the University of Worcester. Robert has also provided audit consultancy to several
other authorities to help create further shared services.
This experience has not dented his critical edge. Therefore, with his shared service background but with a problematising eye, Robert’s academic research
addresses:
“The evolution and devolution of governance within the multiple shared service networks in local government.”
Robert’s university profile is available on this link:
http://www.worcester.ac.uk/discover/robert-milford.html Robert approaches his
work from both a professional and academic perspective, but will occasionally play the saxophone just to prove an auditor can have rhythm.
